This past week was SUKKOT. I just wanted to add some fun pics!
Jewish boy by the western Wall.
This is the Western Wall, where tons of Jews come to listen to the "Priestly Blessing." They wear special clothes and do rituals. Jewish people from all over the world travel to Jerusalem to celebrate the week of Sukkot.
Modern rituals for them include holding a large citron, and waving certain tree branches.
During the blessing that the Priest announces to the whole congregation. families cover themselves with shawls, symbolizing that the whole family receives the blessing.
During this week, they believe they are commanded to make little Sukkas which are like tents, and they eat and some even sleep in them during the week. You can see them on the balconies of Jewish dwellings.
This is us in a large Sukka with our Judaism professor, Mr. Yardin.
We also got to go to their synagogue meeting. We head their discourses, listened to their prayers/chanting/singing. We got to follow along in Hebrew/English in their prayer book. I am learning hebrew and was kind of able to follow along! Learning another language is so fun, it's like a puzzle. Tender mercy was I sat next to a French woman who was Jewish and we had a lovely conversation. At least she's met a Mormon now. :)
Professor Yarden's cute jewish children!
Great Synagogue. We watched the "dancing of the Torah" with tons of Jews. We talked to some younger women about it, and it was an interesting/fun night with everyone. (Day time and night time pics).
