Mount Nebo

This is Mount Nebo. Moses sat here and gazed over the dead sea onto Jericho. Moses is shown the promised land by God in a vision, but he will die before they cross over it. The children of Israel are promised this land. We believe he was probably translated there, and so was Elijah.

The Brazen serpent memorial. This didn't happen exactly at Mnt. Nebo, but somewhere close. The children of Israel where complaining about being lost in wilderness for 40 years, getting sick of manna, and Moses promised that if they looked on the Brazen serpent, they would live. Half of them thought it was too easy and didn't look. Those who didn't look upon it died. Just because of the "easiness of the way." Good gospel application.

Map mosaic from the Byzantine period. 393 AD. It is of most of the land of Israel and its inhabitants. It was under the Umayyad rule. It helped people remember and figure out the history of Jerusalem. You can look closely and see the Roman columns of the carta that line the street to the Church of the Holy Seplechure.
